Any one knows any website from where any edition of ARRL handbook can
be downloaded freely??

That book is really an asset and worth every single penny.

25 US$, is it?
I'm sure you can manage that. Especially if you buy used on eBay
since yearly updates are usually small.

the books by physically taking them off the shelf, checking them out,

bookstores real or online.

I've found copies, though admittedly not recent, at used book sales.

You can also watch for an upcoming amateur radio club fleamarket,
and likely someone will have a copy or two for sale there. Again,
the ARRL keeps a list of such events in North America at their website.

The search string "ARRL handbook" on eBay brings up about 40 copies
for sale, many starting at $1.50. I suppose some finish around $5.

It's gone up in price, the softcover 2004 edition is $34.95, with
the hardcover $49.95 US. I can remember when it had a cover price
of $6.50, that was what I paid for the first one I bought back in
1971, but it is still a good buy if you are paying US dollars.

The ARRL site, http://www.arrl.org is listing 2003 editions
while "quantities last" but do not put a discount price on them.

One can also get the Handbook on CDROM, for $39.95. Unfortunately,
when they list compatibility, they leave out Linux.

It just shows you how set in my ways I must be at 44. Traditionally,
a hamfest was the place to find used copies.

Of course, while there is little variation from year to year, there
has been a lot of variation over the years. Someone should splurge
on a relatively new edition if that's what they are interested in.
If someone is looking for tube information, a recent edition would be
of little use.

It really is a good resource to keep handy. Just like the Win's.

With dollar being as low as it is, it still is effectively US$ 25

That's the one thing you can almost be sure to find in a library.
Of course, I haven't checked the one up river ( gyck, gyck :] !! )
and if the rest of this area is indicative of the libraries...
